Internet Connection Sharing

ICS provides a means of allowing multiple computers to connect to the internet via one internet connection on one machine. ICS should only be used on Small office / Home office (SOHO) networks without any network services, except file and print sharing.

ICS contains a DHCP service distributing addresses in the range of 192.168.0.0/16. This address range cannot be changed. ICS also contains a DNS proxy service that directs any internal DNS resolution requests to the DNS server provided by the ISP. Therefore, to avoid conflict ICS must not be used on a network that has a DHCP or DNS server running. ICS is a “plug and go” service – it is not configurable! The default settings always apply. ICS is installed through My Network Places:

Select Advanced. From the properties page of the connection you would like to share.

Select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection checkbox.

Click OK to complete the installation of ICS.
